The Joys of Mommy

I have five precious daughters, and I want to share my joys with you.

Joy is to behold God in everything.

She was on a mission.

My baby Emogene had a birthday.  She is NINE!  I can't believe it.  The nine year old Emogene loves to read.  In fact, for her birthday, we went to the library to celebrate.  She took a long time finding her books.  It was fun.  She had a great birthday.

Hattie

Hattie has been enjoying first grade.  She is working hard to learn to read and likes to share all of her knowledge with us.
1.  She can break one word into two words, like rainbow, doghouse, and swallowfall.  That last one was my favorite.  She said she got it from "Charlie with a Chance of Meatballs."  Swallowfalls is the name of the town.  She always says the wrong name of that movie.
2.  Today, Hattie doubled over many times with a stomach ache.  We rushed to the bathroom three times.  One time was in W*lmart.  Gross!  On our way home, Hattie revealed that her stomach hurt because of her bloomers.  We risked our lives in a W*lmart bathroom because of the elastic in her bloomers.  And yes, I know a six year old doesn't usually have bloomers under a dress, but Hattie insists on wearing them.  She is very modest.  She has really old ones that I have kept from her 2T dresses.  She also sometimes gets them from Lydda's drawer.
3.  Hattie didn't make it through Emogene's birthday movie.  It was ''Secret*riat."  It was awesome.
4.  Hattie has learned how to fix toast.  She loves surprising us with our breakfast.  We are usually extra surprised the brand new loaf of bread is gone.
5.  Hattie wants to play soccer next season.  She has sweating working against her though.  Sweating is forbidden for Hattie. That is why she has a baby sock in her hair.  Her neck was sweating and she had loaned her ponytail holder to a friend so she could pull up her hair for the soccer game.  I had to do something to keep her neck dry.
6.  Do not lie to Hattie or she will tell me about it.  That was a huge announcement one day after school.  A certain boy told her she was not to color the squirrel, but she was supposed to color the squirrel.  I later found out that Hattie gave that certain boy the stink eye when she realized he had misinformed her.
I still look forward to hearing, "Mommy, did you know someone LIED to me today?"  I love to ask her about her day.
7.  September 6, 2010 will forever be known as the day I did not buy Hattie a Pill*w Pet.  She had to go home and make her own with a towel and stretchy band.
8.  Hattie told me that she knew how to spell a bad word.  I had her spell it since she refused to say it.  You will be shocked about this word.  I cannot believe she knew this word.  I will have to investigate to find out where she heard it.  I will spell it for you, because I don't say this word.  B-L-N
I have popped Eric's mouth for saying it.
9.  Hattie changed her name for two hours one day.  She was known as Morgru.
10.  Hattie started spelling her words with her fingers.  It looked like she was doing math problems.  It was strange, but she spelled the word right.
That is all for now.  She is such a hoot.

Soccer Star

Mia Hamm has nothing on this soccer star!  Emogene is almost done with her first soccer season, and she loved it!  We have enjoyed watching her play.  Her PE coach at school stopped me in the hallway to inform me that he noticed she was very athletically inclined and had great coordination.  Her soccer coach was so proud of this statement, he was speechless upon hearing it.
Emogene really put the soccer back into our family.  In fact, her over weight, super lazy mother signed up to play.  One torture practice down, way too many left.  I will update you on my progress.  I do know that I'm not 18 anymore.
