I have secretly been praying, well it wasn't a secret to God, but it was to Eric, but anywho, I was secretly praying for some free cabinets to appear. I knew someone would eventually be redoing kitchen cabinets, so I was hoping I would come upon the old ones.
It finally happened. Someone in our neighborhood was doing a kitchen overhaul and asked if anyone wanted the old cabinets. I saw the post late, so I was very late picking them. They were picked through and the man had already put them on a trailer, loaded old chain link fencing on top, and put more trash for the dump on top of that. These cabinets were DISGUSTING, and Eric was ready to attack me when I said I still wanted them. We were already dressed and ready for church when we loaded them into the car. I HAD to go right then, because in my mind, someone else was going to get them before me because I think EVERYONE wants junky old cabinets. Also, it was due to rain later that day, and I didn't want the rain to ruin them.
Here is my laundry room with the wasted space. The shelf was a little useful, but not much.
Look at the nastiness. It had dirt and lots of dog hair on them. Gross! I cleaned them, tore them apart, because one section wasn't going to work, and then Eric had to do a bit of reworking to make them work.
He installed them the same day I got them from the trash pile. You heard that right, the. very. same. day. Record broken.
Sheldon is always around to assist.
I really thought this very small cabinet was going to cause Eric to snap,
but he was able to hold it together.
I sanded, primed, and painted. I LOVE THEM!!!!!
Also, it is the shelf that is sagging in the middle, not the cabinets. I used to keep a bunch of Eric's tools on that shelf, and they were very heavy.
I put all of my craft supplies in the cabinets which gave me more space in my hall closet.
The extra space on the end is used for my Thirty-One thermal bags, which helped declutter the top of my refrigerator.
Painting the cabinets also helped me go through the clothes I had hanging in my laundry room.
I hang my clothes to dry on those bars, and they tend to pile up. I used to put baskets on the shelf to hold the girls' socks and school uniforms. I think I'll leave it empty and fold clothes on it. Now, Eric needs to find space in the garage for all the tools I removed from the shelf.
